Harman steadies himself at British Open to keep a 5-shot lead over Young

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 14:05:20 GMT

HOYLAKE, England (AP) — The fascination with Brian Harman at the British Open has little to do with his golf so far. It’s rare in Britain to hear tales of hunting turkey, learning to skin a deer at age 8 and packing wild game in the freezer for his family to eat.One tabloid called him “Brian the Butcher.” Another headline screamed, “I Shoot to Thrill.”Harman’s only concern is bagging the biggest trophy of his career, and he stayed on target Saturday by overcoming an early wobble with a remarkably steady hand. His 8-foot par putt on the last hole at Royal Liverpool gave him a 2-under 69 and allowed him to keep his five-shot lead, leaving him 18 holes away from becoming a major champion.“I’ve thought about winning majors for my whole entire life,” Harman said. “It’s the whole reason I work as hard as I do and why I practice as much as I do and why I sacrifice as much as I do. Tomorrow if that’s going to come to fruition for me, it has to be all about the golf. It has to be ...

Two other people in that vehicle were rescued, she said, adding police are actively searching for all four missing people.Torrential downpours started on Friday afternoon across the Halifax region, dumping mo...

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Texas Rangers All-Star shortstop Corey Seager went on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a sprained right thumb.Seager said an MRI showed no structural issues with the thumb that he hurt in the series opener Friday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers, his former team. X-rays after he exited the game were negative.“They said probably a week or so with just inflammation in general,” Seager said. “And then kind of pain tolerance from there. So I’m not overly worried about it.”The AL West-leading Rangers announced the IL move just minutes before Saturday’s game. It is the second time this season Seager has gone on the injured list.Seager got hurt when his hand jammed awkwardly into the base when reaching on a head-first slide to beat out a double in the eighth inning of the series opener against the NL West-leading Dodgers. He said his thumb was sore and swollen, as would be expected. That is his bottom hand as a left-handed hitter, and his throwing han...

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian security forces on Saturday killed a heavily-armed gunman who broke into a private house in the suburbs of Moscow and fired at them, reportedly threatening to march on the Kremlin. The assailant was spotted by guards after he had broken into an unoccupied house located in an elite cottage village in the Istra region, about 45 kilometers (less than 30 miles) west of Moscow. When two guards and a police officer entered the house, the man held them at gunpoint, but the three later managed to escape, according to Russian media. For several hours, the authorities negotiated with the attacker who was in combat fatigues and toted a Kalashnikov rifle. The man claimed he came from the front lines in Ukraine and was driven by God to march on the Kremlin, the seat of the government in Moscow. He refused to surrender, fired at the special forces and was killed when they stormed the house, Russia’s National Guard said. It said that the attacker had several automatic wea...

AURORA, Colo (KDVR) -- An Aurora woman said she's still in shock after her mobility scooter was stolen from the sidewalk in front of her home.Video shows two men pulling up to her home off 13th Avenue and Jamaica Street on May 25, lifting the scooter into the back of an SUV and speeding away. Marlis Sneed said she has multiple herniated discs and fibromyalgia and relies on the scooter to get around. "I couldn’t believe it,” said Sneed. "You’re stealing from the handicapped. If you see someone with that type of equipment, then you know that that person needs it.”Aurora Police said no suspects have been identified but believe the two men might live nearby or frequently visit the area.  Casa Bonita management responds to employees’ complaints Sneed said Medicaid has declined requests to replace the scooter, leaving her essentially homebound."They only pay for one device every 5 years, and I literally just got this thing in January,” she said. Waterlogged Red Sox drop resumed series opener to Mets 5-4

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 14:05:20 GMT

After hours of storms forced the Red Sox and Mets to suspend Friday night’s series opener with New York leading 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth, the frenemy teams picked up exactly where they left off on Saturday afternoon.Fenway Park had a chance to dry out, but the home team still looked waterlogged when the game resumed. The Mets never relinquished their lead from the night before, and won 5-4.The innings played before the rain had been chaotic, and the mess continued on Saturday afternoon. The Boston bats came out strong in the first two frames, plating three runs on three hits, but the New Yorkers answered back immediately, with a leadoff doubles and 2-run homer in both the third and fourth. With Friday’s starting pitchers Kutter Crawford and Kodai Senga unavailable for the resumption, both teams turned to their bullpens.Alex Verdugo got back in the batter’s box; Senga had a 1-2 count against him when the game went into a delay on Friday night.
